Las Vegas - Egos And Speed

First of all I would like to thank http://FiveHundyByMidnight.com for featuring me yesterday in their Tuesday Evening Las Vegas Links.

The implosion of the Wynn garage yesterday is still fresh in my mind. As I was flipping (digitally) through some photos of mine, I came across a shot from a few weeks ago which showed the word WYNN on the Strip side. The possibility then occurred to me: Is it possible that the reason the garage was covered with a black shroud, was because Steve Wynn did not want people to see something with his name on it being razed? Was it the Shroud of SteveWynn? I will put a photo of what the side looked like under non-shroud conditions, and you decide.

I will also put up a recent photo of the closed south entrance of the Monte Carlo. According to the sign, Diablo's Cantina will be there in fall 2007. Seems like a long time to put up a cantina. Sometimes construction here is very slow followed by very fast. So maybe we will see nothing but dirt until August, and then...BAM...cantina.

The Trump project has been like that. It seemed to take 3/4 of a year or more to build the one floor sales office in front of The Frontier. The sign took months. But look at the speed of the main building going up. Fast.

When people know what they are doing, things move. How many buildings will be imploded, debris carted away, new buildings constructed in their place and opened for business, while places like the long since closed Key Largo Casino remain fenced, dark and graffiti ridden?

My bet is that this fall you will be able to take a driving tour past the closed Klondike, and the closed Key Largo, and then have a nice dinner and drink at Diablo's Cantina.
